All About Me and My Unique Personality: Sophie is a gentle, timid girl, but with patience she has come to love a good chin scratch her smoochy side is coming out. She has a wonderful purr with as little as a look in her direction. She can be playful and loves daily play with strings and teaser toys. Sophie also enjoys having a chatter with you from time to time, and being ridiculous in her cat tunnel. She has been known to sleep on her foster carer's bed and she generally prefers being in the same room as her foster carer in a quiet one-human environment. She will make a wonderful companion for a quiet individual or couple who can accommodate her special needs.
We are accepting applications for Sophie’s adoption. She is desexed and vaccinated, and is awaiting dental surgery before we will move forward with applications. We’re seeking help to cover this poor girl’s special care: https://chuffed.org/project/sophies-long-road-to-adoption .
So as not to stress Sophie and flare up her health issues, and as she is already a timid girl, please be patient with our adoption process - we don't want to rush her. We feel that the calmer and more confident she is, the better her "meet and greets" and adoption trial will go.
My Ideal Home: Once recovered from her surgery, Sophie will be available to a quiet individual or couple home. Her ideal forever family will be patient, and will be comfortable giving Sophie space to decide if and when she wants to interact. She'd go wonderfully with a bookworm or a couch potato, as she seems to approach for pats and hangout time when things are quiet and settled.
She needs to be fed a quality consistent gastrointestinal diet along with a probiotic supplement to ensure she recovers from her ordeal, and it's possible this might be a lifelong requirement. Sophie cannot be homed with other cats or dogs.
For her health and safety and that of the local wildlife, Sophie must be rehomed 100% indoors only - secure inside a home or in a fully-enclosed cat run. Sophie is unlikely to be able to be harness trained.
What is Known About My Background: Sophie was placed in the Council overnight kennels with her kitten, sister and mother and no one came forward for them. She was quite traumatised when she arrived in care but is slowly regaining trust in humans. She appears to be quite young and was probably intended to be used for breeding.
Sophie has been diagnosed with a fairly common immune-related condition that affects her digestive system. It means she needs quality consistent gastrointestinal diet along with a probiotic supplement. Her condition can be exacerbated by stress - even things that we might not consider stressful in the home or that might not appear to have a behavioural reaction from her.
As mentioned above, Sophie also awaiting dental surgery.
In foster care Sophie appears otherwise healthy and comfortable: tail gently up, great appetite, playful even on her own, excellent litter habits, and a wonderful purr when she's in the mood for head scratches.
How Do I Interact with Kids, Dogs, Cats and Other Pets: Due to her condition, Sophie should be rehomed as an only pet in a very calm and quiet home with no resident children.
She would most likely hide under the bed if children came to visit so ideally she would have a space to retreat to during family events.
