PRIVATE SURRENDERS

We have very strict rules with Private Surrenders and we do not generally take on private surrenders

Every day HAR receives phone calls and emails from people asking us to take their dogs and cats into foster care and find them new homes. Some days we receive more people wanting to surrender animals than people wanting to adopt which is very disheartening. Some people are genuinely unable to keep their dog or cat due to medical reasons etc. Others may have ended up with an elderly relative's pet after they died or gone into care. However on many occasions their owners just want to be saved the expense, inconvenience or guilt of taking it to the Pound.

The priority for HAR is to rescue animals facing euthanasia at local pounds. Acceptance of surrender animals into our care is dependent on a number of factors, most importantly the availability of an appropriate foster carer. The pounds we work with are constantly full to capacity, as are our dedicated foster carers, so we are rarely able to accept private surrenders.

Please note that we will only consider private surrenders that are:

1. Microchipped and registered with local council

2. Desexed, vaccinated and all vet checked (we will need vet certificates)

3. You will need to send us a description and photos of your animal by email at privatesurrenders@hunteranimalrescue.com.au. We will not be able to consider your animal without having received an email first.

4. $100 surrender fee will have to be paid to us if we can take your animal

5. You will need to keep your animal until we can find a carer. This can take weeks so you need to be prepared that it won’t happen straight away.

If your animal or situation does not match the criteria above, WE WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU SO THERE IS NO NEED TO CONTACT US.

We strongly suggest you also try some of the advice given in the links below.
