It can be challenging to take a photo that does these lovely dogs justice. It is also often very hard to tell how big a dog is by the photo alone. If you are unsure please contact the carer for more info. Carers are always happy to discuss their foster with you

Finally our darling Lucky has found a forever home.

We would like to thank everyone who donated to Lucky and Hunter Animal Rescue and for all the people who have followed his story, shown support, sent their love and best wishes and most of all to his carers who put in a lot of work to bring him back to health and to a point where he could be re-homed.

JOSIE - Female Greyhound x 22 months

Josie is just settling in with her foster carer. Josie was rehomed as a pup but her family are no longer able to look after her. Josie will need secure fencing with no footholds as she can climb. More info soon...

Animal Number: 09267

Name: Hailey

Breed: Rottweiler x

Age: 10 months old

Size: Large dog

Suitable for children: Yes! Hailey is fantastic with kids.

Ideal home: Hailey is a girl with some special needs. So we are looking for a special family willing to put in the long term commitment to Hailey. Like many large dogs her size she grew too fast and her bones and muscles did now grow at the same time. Due to this she has an elbow that has detached cartilage and arthritis. Despite this Hailey could still live a long and happy life, some dogs with Hailey’s condition don’t show any signs of really slowing until around 6 years, but every dog is different.

Hailey will let us know what she can and can’t do. What her new owners will have to watch for is:

How she acts in cold weather – she could be a little slow at starting but will come good, so don’t push her till her leg warms up and keep her a little warmer than most other dogs at night.

Don’t over exercise – after a new or extensive exercise watch to Hailey the next day, if she is stiff and seems sore, then slowly reduce the length of her exercise until she is comfortable with it or change the type of exercise.

Change exercise – again if Hailey has shown stiffness after a particular exercise, change or limit it – i.e. rather than a long run Hailey may be better off with a swim as swimming will take the weight off her leg.

Diet – control Hailey’s diet so she doesn’t become overweight and add more pressure to her elbow.

Medication:
1.    Hailey needs to be on arthritis prevention powders or mixes, such as Sasha’s Blend; there are many good ones on the market.
2.    Cartrophen injections.  This injection aids in the slowing of arthritis, and should be given in a course of injections (1 injection per week for 4 weeks), then leave for months until Hailey shows signs again.  Do not do monthly injections. Keep up the daily treatments like Sasha’s Blend.

So what Hailey needs is a family willing to put in that little bit more attention to Hailey’s care.

A bit about me: Hailey is a beautiful dog who gets along extremely well with kids and other dogs, she travels well in the car and loves to get out and about. She has a fantastic temperament and would be an asset to any family.

Foster carer contact details: If you think you are the correct family who can take over Hailey’s care or if you have any further questions about Hailey please contact Kim on 0429 305 300 or send her an email

TEXAS - 8 months old Kelpie x - Male

Lively boy in typical Kelpie style. Full of life, loves to fetch a stick, swim at the beach, dam, lake or river - he is not fussy as long as it water! Good with older kids, has not been tested with younger kids, but does not jump up very much so could be okay with a smaller tot. He loves cuddles, licks and snuggles. Gets on well with other dogs.  Has had some training and responds well.

Animal Number: 10097

Name: Chief
Breed:  Bull Arab x Labrador
Age:  3 years old
Sex: Male (desexed)
Size:  Large - 70cm high at the shoulder (
about the size of a large male Labrador) and about 40kg in weight.

Suitable for children:  Yes, Chief is great with kids but due to his size he can knock them over easily.

A bit about me:  Chief came into care after being rescued from the street. Despite this he is a fantastic dog with a great nature. He loves to ride in the car, be it in the back seat or the back of the ute. He is fantastic with all people and has no problems at the vet either, he is just a big sook. Chief loves his daily walk and playing with his foster brother. Chief has been good with dogs of all sizes. Even though Chief is a large boy he is a pleasure to take for a walk and has all the basic obedience commands mastered. Chief gets along great with other dogs of all sizes and considering his start to life is very well behaved.

Ideal home: A home that is prepared to give him the love and attention he deserves. Somewhere he can get a daily walk and be part of the family. He would make a great dog for a tradesman.

Foster carer contact details: If you are interested in Chief, please contact Katherine on 0404584028.

Animal Number: 10132

Name: Zacky
Breed:  German Shepherd x Alaskan Malamute?
Age:  Approx 5 years old
Sex: Male
Size:  67cm at the shoulder

Suitable for children: Would need to be supervised with smaller children to ensure he didn’t knock them over.

Ideal home: Where he gets to be part of the family.

A bit about me: I am a gentle giant who needs to be reassured that I am loved and wanted. I am still underweight but am filling out with all the yummy food I’m getting. I need someone who will be gentle and patience with me and give me lots of attention. I love to roll on the grass and go for walks. I get on well with other dogs but cats frighten me a bit. My foster mum says that I really deserve my own forever home where I will never be hungry or frightened again.

Foster carer contact details: If you are interested in meeting Zacky, please contact Jessie on 02-40091015 or send her
an email

Zacky's foster home is in Charlestown.

Animal Number: 10115

Name: Boof
Breed:  Boxer x Ridgeback
Age:  3 years old
Sex: Male
Size:  Large

Suitable for children: Boof is a gentle boy, however he would be best rehomed with children over  the age of 12 years who are confident around dogs and can lay down the rules, as he is quite a large dog and tends to get a bit pushy with his weight and can jump up when he gets over excited.

Ideal home: Would be with a family that is patient, understanding and that can spend some time training him.

A bit about me: Boof is an extremely gentle loving boy who craves human attention and lots of cuddles. Boof needs to go to a home with people that will be patient with him as he doesn't appear to have had much training and is always wanting to climb up onto your lap for cuddles. He is a very cheeky boy who likes to look up at you with his big brown eyes and constantly likes to give you his paw until you give him a pat and some attention.

At times Boof is sensitive to both loud noises and abrupt movements. He reacts by getting down low with his tail between his legs. Having said this, Boof does NOT have an aggressive bone in his body. He is very friendly with everyone and warms to people quickly. He is not food aggressive with humans, you can pat and take away or move Boof's bowl while he is eating and he wont bat an eye lid. However he can get aggressive with other dogs at meal times. Normally it is just a warning growl telling them back off and that is it.

Despite having been a bit skinny and malnourished when we picked him up, Boof has lovely manners and knows how to sit and wait for his food. He is starting to fill out nicely. Boof is learning how to take food from peoples hands gently but sometimes he forgets his manners and needs to be reminded.

Boof needs a family that can give him lots of love and attention . Boof tends to be very picky with his doggy playmates and only has a select few that he actually likes and gets along with. If Boof were to be rehomed with another dog the introduction would have to be slow and highly supervised as his response to a new doggy friend can vary greatly from a friendly submissive reaction to quiet an aggressive response. In saying this though Boof has really warmed to our little dog over time and they are now the best of friends.

Animal Number: 10135

Name: Chrissy
Breed:  Kelpie x Border Collie
Age:  12 months
Sex: Female
Size:  Medium (45cm tall at the withers.)  She is smaller then you would expect given her breeds.

Suitable for children: Has not been tested with children but she is very gentle. In saying this she would appreciate older children who will play with her.

Ideal home: Chrissy is happy to be inside, but would be equally as happy outside as long as she had plenty of exercise and things to keep her busy. She will need someone to walk her everyday and continue with her training, at the moment she is learning to sit and come as well as house training. She would be happy to be the only dog in the house, as she can be a little bit growly with other dogs, but she is slowly learning to play with our dog. She prefers males and would be suited to a home with a strong male presence.

A bit about me: I LOVE to play fetch and would be happy if I could play it all day, with anything I can find (tennis balls are the best tho). I like to come in and have a cuddle on the couch at night before going to my own bed outside in the laundry. I am a very quiet dog and hardly ever bark. Dinner time is my favourite and I sometimes do a little dance because I am so excited. I love pats and learning new tricks so I can get treats. I love my foster dad lots and lots but mum is ok too. I hope that I can find a loving home where I can play lots of fetch and get lots of cuddles. Please call my foster parents if you would like to meet me.
