DOGS AVAILABLE BY DONATION
UPDATED 10/7
The following animals are available by donation.
These dogs are being rehomed by various rescue groups or their owners
Only animals listed as Hunter Animal Rescue dogs come with a two week trial period unless stated.
All animals go to their new owners desexed and microchipped. The donation amount (if specified) covers required vet work.
Dogs listed on this page are not being made available "By Donation" because they are undesirable or badly behaved. These dogs may need to rehome quickly due to many reasons such as:- space issues, carers going away, having been in care for an extended period or due to special needs. HAR also encourages owners looking to rehome their dogs to place a donation fee as we are consistently dealing with the way pets are often regarded as "disposable"
Hunter Animal Rescue supports responsible pet ownership. We encourage all members of the public to have their dogs and cats desexed before their first season. We look foward to the end of overbreeding of companion animals and a time when there is no longer a need for us to rescue animals from the pound.
If you are interested in listing a dog on this page* please email.
*conditions apply, clicking the email link will take you to conditions page.

Looking for a great companion?

TREVOR - Bull Terrier x - Large size - 18mths

Trevor is an active puppy who does not know his size or strength. He is socialised with other dogs -but can be dominate especially with other males. He is good around children but is unsuitable to a home with young children because he is so bouncy and large and would inevitably accidently knock children over. So a home with no children or teenage children would be best.
He would so suit a young person or young couple who had the time and desire to take him to training and spend time teaching him some manners. His behaviour is all normal puppy behaviour - but due to his size he can appear a little intimidating. Trevor will require a home commited to his ongoing training.
His foster carer describes him as the "shrek" of the dog world - he looks big and scary and is oblivious to his strength and underneath is a heart of gold just wanting love. Trevor has lots of layers but he will be a most loyal companion to the person that decides to give him a home.
Trevor is a Hunter Animal Rescue Dog and is desexed, vaccinated, microchipped, lifetime registered, wormed and flea treated. Trevor is available for a two week trial period.
Trevor is available for a donation.
If you would like to meet him please contact his foster mum Amanda on 49771666

Bonnie is a friendly, energetic female pure breed beagle who has been de-sexed and all her vaccinations are up to date. She is a loved family pet however we have our own business and three busy children and poor Bonnie spends long periods of time on her own, bored and lonely. We feel that she could have a much better life with someone who is at home more and can give her more attention. She loves a daily walk so she can have a good sniff around the neighbourhood. I'm sure she would be thrilled to have a canine friend around all the time to play with but we don't want to take on the responsibility of another dog.
She would suit a home with older kids over 10 y.o. Like most beagles she loves her tucker and although she wouldn't suit being indoors all the time she likes nothing more than coming in and hoovering up the crumbs under the dining table!

Two much loved large “pups” are looking for a home in
Newcastle. Owners are moving from
Sydney to an apartment. Several options will be considered such as re-homing, permanent fostering, together or separately (see below).
Ralph (gold)
Mastiff x Staffy. Raplh is 100% bulldog. He is full-on fun in play, strength and affection for his family, naturally curious and a great companion. Found as a stray as a pup who possibly fell off a builder’s truck. Well trained. Likes travelling. Fantastic guard dog. Innoculated, desexed, micro-chipped and in good health.
Roxy (brown)
Ridgeback x Staffy. Roxy is a large sook. A beautiful dog with hound-like features, she is placid, affectionate and great with kids. Really fit and healthy she is also an excellent guard dog. Desexed, inoculated and micro-chipped.
Options
Owners would prefer to still have access, if at all possible. Rehoming is one option, but fostering on a permanent basis could suit a genuine dog lover(s) who cannot afford to keep them. We are prepared to discuss providing food, vet, washing and other support in exchange for access for walks and trips to the beach. This could suit a couple or single with a large yard who want protection and companionship.
You get lots of fun, love and all the protection – we share the fun and love and pay the bills.

Jelly - 4yo Male Tibetan Spaniel
The gorgeous Jelly is looking for a new home to call his own. Jelly is a fun little guy who loves to play with his ball and spend time with his family. He loves his walks and would love another doggy companion to play with. As you can see Jelly is missing one eye but that doesnt slow this mischievious munchkin down a bit. So if you are looking for a small INSIDE companion and would like the company of an occasionally naughty but always funny companion then Jelly may just be the one.
Jelly comes with full vetwork and lifetime registration and is available to a loving forever home for $300 including a 2 week trial period.

Byron is a great dog with a wonderful nature, you wouldn't think so considering his size but he will occasionally sit on my knee! He's good with children and other dogs, he loves bush walks and most of all being
around people. He's well training both inside and outside, he'll sit for his food and knows right from wrong. He has full vet records, he's vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and de-sexed.If I had to describe him in one sentence I would say that he's a lovable, loyal companion with his own personality who loves fuss!

ON TRIAL - Shep - Pure German Shepherd - 8 years - Male
Shep is an extremely well mannered boy who has received obedience training - so he is very responsive to commands. He may be 8 but he is still active and will enjoy a daily walk.
Shep is fine with other dogs, whilst in foster care he has been exercised with small and large breeds and he is not fussed by them. He would be suited to being an only dog or would accept a companion as long as the companion was not dominant and not boisterous. He is a very friendly boy who is looking for a loving home for his last few years (Shepherds can live to 14 but average age is 12). Shep would suit an over 50's couple who have experience with large dogs that want a hassle free companion to share their days with.
Shep is currently in foster care in Mandalong. He has been around his foster carers children with no issue. As he is a senior citizen his adoption fee is $125.
A two week trial applies to Shep's adoption.
To meet Shep - please contact Amanda on 49771666 or wheelbick@optusnet.com.au

URGENT HOME NEEDED 4 RALPH!!!!
Medium Crossbreed Approx 8 years old
Ralph was an injured stray who I found on the streets where I suspect he had wandered for too long. His tail was cut and bleeding, he was malnourished and dehydrated and close to having pneumonia due to being out in the cold. I took him to the pound, he had no microchip and no one came to claim him. When his seven days was up, I could not let him die and I decided to rescue him from death row and find him a new home.
He needs an urgent loving home where preferably he can be the only dog. He does not like male dogs (particularly dominant males) but that is probably due to him being desexed so late in life. He is very people focussed and loves to be patted and rubbed behind the ears. He appears to have no issue with children; however I am not sure what he is like with cats.
I have paid for Ralph to be desexed, Microchipped, vaccinated (Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo-Virus, and Parainfluenza C6). He is Tan and approximately 8 yrs old. He is in good health and has regained condition since being in care. Ralph is avaolable for donation to ONLY a good home!!!
Or do you know someone who can foster Ralph until he has a home of his own??? He is an older gent who does not dig or jump fences and he would probably prefer to wait in a foster home for his forever home rather then the boarding kennel.
Please consider this senior citizen who is looking for a warm and loving place for his twilight years. He obviously was a loved pet sometime in his life – it would be nice to show him that again.

KEISHA - Malamute, F, 4 yrs
Keisha is a lovely girl, very people friendly but not so great with other dogs. She is energetic and will need a family who will exercise her and continue her training. She does jump up a little and pulls on the lead but that is nothing a little time and attention will not fix. Keisha is only medium sized and would be an ideal only dog.

Lucee - 18mth bull terrier x cattle - female
Lucee has been in care for approximately six months and has flourished in the care of her foster mum, but would love a home to call her own now.
She is very well socialised with other dogs. She sits on commands and is eager to please.
She is excellent around young children (foster carer has two year old twins and a four year old).
Although she is well socialised - she would be just a happy to be an only dog.
Lucee is microchipped, desexed, vaccinated, wormed and on heartworm prevention
Lucee has a two week trial period.
She is available for a donation.
Please call Amanda on 4977-1666 for more information and to meet Lucee

ISOBELLE - Jack Russel, Female, 3 years
Isobel is a pure-bred Jack Russell. She is white with a brown spot over one eye.She was the smallest of the litter but the cutest and most inquisitive. She has a lovely disposition and is not yappy or fussy with her food. She loves to sleep in the sun but enjoys going out for walks. She would be the perfect companion for a senior person or for a family who has time for her. Isobelle's current owners have developed a very busy lifestyle sadly not paying Isobelle the attention this little sweetie needs and deserves. To do the best by Isobelle her current owners are seeking a new loving home where she can be spoilt rotten.
